About the Role

We are seeking a detail-oriented Controls Engineer to join our engineering team. In this role, you will be responsible for the full lifecycle of Direct Digital Control (DDC) systems—from initial design packages and submittals to DDC programming, system graphics, field commissioning, and project closeout.

You will work collaboratively with Sales, Project Managers, and Field Technicians to ensure custom Building Automation Systems (BAS) function reliably, safely, and strictly to project specifications.

Compensation & Details

  • Base Salary Range: $60,000 – $80,000 / year (commensurate with experience)

  • Status: Salaried / Exempt

  • Travel: Regional travel to support key high-profile customer accounts and field commissioning phases

Key Responsibilities

  • Design & Submittal Packages: Develop full project engineering submittals, including control wiring diagrams, sequence of operations (SOO), Bill of Materials (BOM), valve schedules, and equipment specs.

  • DDC Systems Programming: Create, test, and document custom DDC control programs and user-friendly system graphics/displays (Alerton or similar BAS platforms).

  • Project Handover & Coordination: Review project requirements with Project Management and ensure seamless transfer of wiring diagrams, software data, and site requirements to field installation teams.

  • Field Support & Commissioning: Conduct site visits to assist technicians with system commissioning, resolve field issues, update programming/graphics per change orders, and perform complete system performance verifications.

  • Project Closeout & As-Builts: Prepare final As-Built documentation, archive programming backups, support end-user owner training, and execute smooth project handovers to the Service department.

  • Continuous Improvement: Maintain up-to-date industry knowledge on electrical/mechanical installation methods, product specifications, and emerging control technologies.

What You Bring

Required Qualifications:

  • Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of DDC/BAS controls, mechanical/HVAC operational concepts, and electrical schematics.

  • Design & Drafting Capabilities: Proficiency in reading and creating control submittals, wiring schematics, and sequence of operation documents.

  • Programming & Graphics: Experience programming DDC controllers and building intuitive user interface graphics for building management platforms (e.g., Alerton, Tridium Niagara, or equivalent BAS platforms).

  • Field & Troubleshooting Aptitude: Practical experience supporting on-site start-up, troubleshooting, and system commissioning alongside field technicians.

  • Organization & Collaboration: Proven ability to manage project timelines, coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams (Sales, PMs, Field Techs), and deliver thorough documentation.

  • Mobility: Willingness and ability to travel to customer sites across the region as required by project needs.

We are an Equal Opportunity Employer (EOE/Vets/Disabled). All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or veteran status.
