Automation Engineer (Experienced)
Location: Cincinnati, OH (Hybrid) Type: Permanent, full-time Salary: $100,000–$135,000 + performance bonus & benefits (dependent on experience) Travel: Approx. 10–20% (domestic, with occasional international)
The opportunity
Sibling is partnering with a leading engineering and custom software consultancy to hire an experienced Automation Engineer for its Cincinnati team. Our client designs and delivers advanced automation, controls and SCADA solutions across a broad range of sectors — from manufacturing and testing through to product development — for clients around the world.
This is a hands-on, client-facing role for a controls engineer who enjoys both writing quality code and getting on-site to bring electrical and mechanical systems to life. You’ll work independently and as part of project teams, own solutions from design through commissioning, and help mentor newer engineers as you grow.
What you’ll do
- Develop and program automation solutions to a high engineering standard, interfacing software with hardware to meet and exceed client requirements.
- Commission solutions on customer sites, troubleshooting electrical and mechanical systems (travel as needed).
- Work across leading industrial PLC, HMI and SCADA platforms — Siemens, Rockwell and Ignition among them.
- Contribute to system architecture and design, taking both leading and supporting roles across the project lifecycle.
- Communicate deliverables to clients, build lasting relationships, and support proposals and business development.
- Mentor and technically guide newer members of the team.
What we’re looking for
- 5–7+ years’ hands-on experience in industrial automation — PLCs, motion control, process control, HMI, SCADA, robotics or machine vision.
- Proven programming ability, comfortable with text-based languages and object-oriented concepts (not ladder logic alone).
- Experience across major control platforms such as Siemens, Rockwell and/or Ignition.
- A degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or a related field — or equivalent demonstrable experience. A strong academic record is valued.
- The ability to manage multiple projects, work directly with clients and respond to their needs.
- Strong written and verbal communication, including the confidence to help shape project proposals.
- Experience leading or mentoring technical teams is an advantage.
- Willingness to travel roughly 10–20%.
Eligibility
Applicants must hold the right to work in the United States. This role does not offer visa sponsorship.
What’s on offer
- Competitive salary of $100,000–$135,000, plus a performance bonus.
- A collaborative, technically excellent environment with genuine investment in professional growth.
- Varied project work across multiple industries and cutting-edge technologies.
- Hybrid working from the Cincinnati office.
