Senior Process Automation Engineer
About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Process Automation Engineer on behalf of a premier system integrator delivering transformative automation and digital solutions at the intersection of science and technology.
In this role, you will lead Distributed Control System (DCS) and process automation projects across a variety of client sites—ranging from large-scale greenfield installations to targeted process improvement initiatives. You will work on the cutting edge of modern manufacturing, supporting both established facilities and emerging leaders in the Life Sciences (mAb, mRNA, CAR-T, Cell & Gene Therapy), Food & Beverage, and specialty industrial sectors.
Key Responsibilities
Design & Documentation: Develop Functional Requirements Specifications (FRS), Detailed Design Specifications (DDS), and execution Test Scripts.
Technical Leadership: Serve as the overall technical lead on automation projects—designing, implementing, and testing process control software independently or alongside a project team.
Project Execution: Ensure all software deliverables are accurate, thoroughly documented, and completed on schedule.
Commercial & Proposal Support: Draft automation-focused engineering proposals in collaboration with Account Management and Engineering Leadership.
Team Mentorship: Drive engineering efficiency through mentorship, training, and effective utilization of junior engineers and technicians.
Project Delivery: Help manage control system project budgets while maintaining direct client communications.
Key Deliverables
Lead the implementation and adherence of core system integration policies, procedures, and engineering standards.
Read, interpret, and develop P&IDs and SAMA/ISA logic diagrams.
Design, implement, and test complex Batch Unit Operations.
Integrate and communicate seamlessly with PLCs and third-party control systems.
Qualifications & Skills
Education: Bachelor of Science in Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
Experience: Minimum 5 years of process automation control systems engineering experience with Distributed Control Systems (DCS).
Industry Experience: Deep understanding of cGMP, batch process control in the life sciences industry, and system validation requirements (GAMP 5).
Technical Proficiency: Hands-on knowledge of data collection, industrial Bus technologies, and OPC communications.
Travel: Ability to travel locally to regional customer sites, with minor additional national or international travel as needed.
Work Authorization: Must be currently authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
Core Systems & Technologies
Primary: Emerson DeltaV (or equivalent DCS platforms)
Secondary: OSI PI, Allen-Bradley PLCs, Siemens PLCs, SCADA/HMIs, SQL, Kepware/Matrikon OPC, or equivalent industrial protocols.
Compensation & Benefits
Base Salary Range: $120,000 – $150,000 per year (commensurate with experience and qualifications) + eligibility for variable bonus compensation.
